Canastas Verdes

We are a group of female farmers in the Sacred Valley of Peru providing people with delicious, healthy, and organic food.

Marketplace Veggies

Our vegetables are grown in independent farms in the Sacred Valley. They are certified organic farms by our licensed permaculturist.

Why Organic?

The amount of chemicals used to produce our food is unprecedented. We need to make a choice for our lives, our health, and our Earth.

Questions?

Do you have questions about our organization? Here is a list of frequently asked questions!

Mission

Canastas Verdes partners with, supports, and empowers local and indigenous communities in the Sacred Valley by creating fully sustainable and scalable organic farming practices. We want to transform the Sacred Valley back to ancient and healthy practices in connection and harmony with the Earth, Pachamama.

Value

Our vision is to connect local wisdom and modern tools. Through rebuilding the land, community outreach, and helping create a market for organically grown vegetables, we aim to be the bridge between local communities, expats, and travelers to create a community based on healthy living and valuable friendships.

Challenges

There are many challenges that we face as a group of organic farmers in the Sacred Valley. First, the lack of Peruvian understanding of the value of organic vegetables. Second, the lack of support for female farmers. Third, the cultural differences between westerners and Peruvians, stemming from a colonial history of interaction.

Baskets

Our baskets are filled with fresh harvested, organic vegetables straight from the independent farms of the indigenous women in the Sacred Valley. Customers can choose between two sizes of baskets and even customize their baskets! We also send baskets to families in need via our partners here in the Sacred Valley.

Community

Canastas Verdes is committed to creating a community in which everyone is welcome: Peruvians, expats, travelers, and more. We are committed to raising the health and wellness that organic vegetables give us within this community and keeping them healthy and closer to the Earth.

The Valley

The Sacred Valley of Peru has a rich agricultural history, dating long before the Incan empire. The Urubamba River irrigates the valley, providing nutrients to the soil and making the land perfect for growing food through healthy, organic methods.

Canastas Verdes has always been such a wonderful treat! I enjoy the beautiful mix in each bag. The fresh organic veggies have such a wonderful taste that I no longer buy my vegetables elsewhere. Thank you Canastas Verdes for a wonderful surprise each week of delicious herbs and vegetables!

Felix Durden

Canastas Verdes has been a life send for organic vegetables in the Valley! Their weekly bags of greens, herbs, cherry tomatoes and other gems are always super fresh, clean and incredibly delicious. So grateful to these wonderful farmers for taking care of this land and our bellies.

I absolutely LOVE Canastas Verdes, and the work they do to promote and amplify important work done by the local organic farmers of Urubamba. The produce is seriously great, and the people of Castas Verdes have been so accommodating and communicative. Plus, you get SO MUCH produce….ORGANIC PRODUCE….for just 30 or 50 soles! Highly recommend!!
